Haha, I was playing with recovering shadows and thought it was some specular noise or lights from a plane. Not used to seeing stars with NYC just across the river.

Here's a shot at astronomical twilight on the west coast (south Orange County, CA)

Using the infamous 70-300 DO green ring...
300mm @ 5.6, 125 ISO, 5 second exposure

No post except for ~50% cropping. I probably could have sharpened it a bit, but I guess it'll do for now.

Really should get that new 100-400L...

Hey guys, We got a little lucky with the weather here in San Fransisco. Yesterday and most of the day today was completely cloudy but late this afternoon the clouds started to break. Of course they hung out just long enough in the east for us to miss the moon-rise but it still worked out pretty well. Since I was out here on business I only brought along my DSLR and the 100-400mm lens but I'm pretty happy with the results.

Right at sunset...the only clouds in the sky are in the east of course....

The eclipsed moon finally peaks from behind the clouds.

My favorite of the evening.

I didn't hang out for the end of the eclipse. Too many people crowding the pier and once it made it high enough to not frame in the bridge it really wasn't worth it to stay any later since I've got an early work call tomorrow.

Some nice stuff in there. Wish the weather would have cooperated. I was looking forward to putting my new 70D/100-400L to something different. I guess I'll go out today and find... a duck.

It was totally overcast here when the eclipse started. Then a few hours I saw some holes in the clouds, so I tried to blend two exposures together. I can't say that I'm loving the result, but it is what it is.
