I got these two photos last night. First was the moon taken just a few minutes before the beginning of the umbral shadow eclipse. In the first one I got of the full moon about a half hour before the total phase of the eclipse began. By now, the moon was deeply inside the Earth's penumbra, and from the Moon's perspective, the Earth was blocking most of the sun. Taken with a 100-400L.

The second was taken near mid-totality. I combined several exposures taken within a minute using Photomatix HDR software. Taken with a 100-200L to get a faster lens, at the cost of some magnification. The faster lens brought in a lot of stars, which can't be seen in the first photo.

Both photos taken with a 7D in my front yard in Marlboro, Mass.

My first time giving this a go. All I have is a Sigma 70-300, which isn't terribly sharp at the far end. Also, editing has to be done on my iPad because I don't have a computer that can handle photo editing right now. The laptop I'm on is very low end and getting a little old. :-(

I don't have a lens long enough to isolate the moon, so instead I included it with other things in the foreground:) This is the Bay Bridge, in the San Francisco Bay.

The moon played hide and seek with the clouds all night, but I was able to grab this hour-long sequence.

An hour in the life on an eclipse. One picture every 10 minutes.
