tv mode changing shutter speed

i want to use tv mode with a 500 shutter speed. everything set but when i press shutter halfway it is changing to different speeds depending where i aim. i thought that when i selected that shutter speed in tv it would stay there. what am i doing wrong. any help much appreciated

What camera are you using? Check your custom functions to make sure if safety shift is turned off.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

Bingo! Or use auto ISO. That will bump ISO before dropping your shutter speed.
