No doubt this pic isn't much to write home about, but it was exciting to get. I was out early this morning on a shoot. Not much going on this morning so we high tailed it back to the pickup. By we I mean my lab Dakota and myself. She always goes along on all my outings. We were moving along at a pretty good clip when she stopped and went into her, there's something around here mode. And yes there was, this sow and cubs bedded down under a very large cottonwood. There was some adrenalin flowing as they popped up out of the tall grass. In a second they were all scrambling up this cottonwood and I must say I was quite impressed at how very fast that big old sow could climb that tree. When it was all over, which was just a few seconds, I was pretty thankful that I had made the decision many years ago to always take her along for just this reason. To give me early warning of a critter being close by and she did not fail me today. Without her, the outcome could have been more exciting yet if I had walked another ten yards or so closer. I did take a second to point and fire my camera as they climbed the tree. Now, at least I have somewhat of a pic to remember the day.:-)

... or the main thing was you were able to post the shot (and hence made it home alive)
I can't image living in an area where there were bears.
Australia seems much safer :-D

Thanks AceCo55. On most years, one wouldn't find bears in the area I was in. But because of the drought in our area this year, there was no berry crop for the bears. As a consequence they are having to roam further and further to find food. Unfortunately it is bad news for the bears as they will be going into winter hibernation in poor physical condition. The bottom line is many of them are just plain starving.
