I am curious what you think? I think I could only do so much given the clouds covering the mountain in the backdrop (I THINK :)!!) A few different positions and edits.... I'm curious what else could have been done.

Thanks in advance

I like them.

The only one I'm not keen on is the third and only because the Mountain is sort of cancelling out the person.

You should choose...are they portraits or landscapes?
Any of them, with better PP, would make a nice landscape were it not for the insertion of the person.

The shots are nice! i like also the post processing of 2 and 3.

Having said that the problem is the subject ..., specially the 1, 2 and 4.
i do not mean the person as the subject, i mean you gave equal importance to the sky, the lake/reflection and the person, this 50-50 composition made me a bit lost and think that you was not sure about what you want to show as a main subject.
A main subject can very easily lead to some secondary subjects but for that you need to choose your main subject and not put 3 main subjects taking all over the picture ;)

I prefer the #2 because one the the main subject is in movement, nice Landscape ! ;)

Is it not possible to have both?

Again along the same lines? I thought it would be nice to have a nice combo of the person in the scene, reflection of him on the lake, and adding to mountains in the background. It seems to me if there was nothing in the background it'd be a pretty dull photo?

Again I ask to learn.... Not to challenge both your opinions.

Thanks again

Normally, reflection shots with the horizon in the center are an exception to the rule about putting your horizons on the top or bottom third of the image. However, in this image, the mountains are not reflected in the background, only the person and the sky and IMHO, the sky is not interesting or beautiful. I think you could still shoot the lake with the person's reflection in it and include the mountains without including so much of the sky by moving your horizon line up near the top third.

Love the first two, for my tastes the last two would be improved with more contrast.

This is a bit random, but I'm curious why you think they would do well on Instagram. Not saying I disagree, just wondering what in particular makes you think that.

Just started my IG account a couple of months ago but i've been doing lots of trial/error and research.. Instagram is it's own beast. In my research, especially if you have a very consistently themed portfolio of similar pictures one can do well. Specifically, because of clouds, reflections, and the space of people in nature, if hashtagged correctly i can see it getting picked up and featured by IG accounts with large following. It is not an exact science but it is just my thoughts.

Misunderstanding ;) you can have all of what you want to show, but give some priority or importance to lead from the main to the secondary subject by a different composition ;)
