I shoot basketball with a Canon 7D Mark II and am thinking about replacing my Canon 35mm and 50mm prime lenses with a Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/ 2.8 lens.

But I wonder if the 17-55mm lens is fast enough for sports. I thought I'd put the question here to see if anyone out there is already using the aforementioned lens for basketball and can give me an idea of what to expect.

I'm not using that lens but all my lenses are f2.8 and they work fine for basketball as long as there is fairly good light. The real question is how fast does the 17-55 focus?

Hi, the canon 17-55mm focus pretty fast and the image quality is quite good to. The 7d mark II is not a low noise on high iso champion but is not bad either. hope that helps

+1 on 17-55 fast focus speed. If you are sitting fairly close to the action I would think that would work pretty good.
