For some time I have been following the Word Association Game (15) thread. Yet whenever I check the purplish pink box at the top of POTN that tells me how many new posts there are in my followed threads, nothing for the Association Game thread ever shows up.

Why has this been happening, and is there any way it can it be fixed?

EDIT: Here is a screen shot showing that I am indeed following the thread (attached)

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

At the top of the page, above the thread, right hand side, find the "Followed" dialog.

To the right of "Followed" you will see three lines looking sort of like, = click that.

Is there a button labeled "Enable notifications" ?

if so, click that.

Jake,
Thanks for the reply. . Actually, while you were replying, I added a screen shot to "prove" that I have already checked the thread as "followed".

I don't see any button that says, "Enable Notifications". . Nor have I seen such a button on any other thread I follow. . And yet, as far as I know, all of the other threads I am following have no trouble getting their new posts to show up in my "Notifications" box.

Did you click the three lines next to the "Followed" dialog, as I described?

Will do it....just gimme a sec

EDIT: Ok, I did it. And then, after clicking on the lines, a menu came up that gave me the "Enable Notifications" button. And I clicked on it. Hopefully that works. Thanks for your incredibly quick response and (hopefully) solution to my problem.
_______________ _______________ _______________ _______________

I guess the problem is that I don't ever see menus and options that are "hidden". All that was visible were three lines - how in the world would I ever, ever know that those lines contained anything?

Filckr did stuff a few years ago that was similar - they took previously visible buttons and choices and buried them and hid them. How in the world are you ever supposed to know exactly what to click on when that is how things are laid out?

I don't want to be like some teenager with a video game and just start clicking all over the screen just to "see what happens". I want to everything I do on a site to be well thought out and definite, and every time I click on something I want to know exactly what it is I am clicking on, why I am clicking on it, and what will happen when I do click on it.

I guess to sum it up, one could say that I don't like to figure out how to use a website. Rather, I like everything to be so extremely obvious that there is nothing to figure out!

I don't see that in this thread. Win 7 + FFox.

The 3 lines only appear if you are already following the thread.

You also don't need to click the 3 lines. The word itself is also clickable and brings up the same options when clicked.

Usually, one would not really need to delve into this menu, but in this case somehow, somewhere along the way, the notifications were disabled.

Thanks for the clarification re: clicking "Followed" forgot that altogether.

If you have a smart phone, most apps have those same 3 lines to represent "settings" Some smart phones even have that on the home screen. :p

I would never use a smart phone to participate in a photography website. In my opinion, such things are better viewed on a nice, large, calibrated monitor....so that will be the only way I access POTN.

Lol no. I'm not saying that it only shows up on a smart phone. I'm saying that if you use a smart phone regularly, you would see those 3 lines on many other apps bc just about every app on a smart phone uses them to represent "Settings". therefore you would have known what those 3 lines represent, BECAUSE you would have seen them in other places. :)
