I've been out to Point Reyes National Seashore (North of San Francisco in Marin County) a lot lately for the tule elk rut (there are two herds up there), but while striking out quite a bit on the elk, I have seen a ton of coyotes lately, including a lot of young ones. Every trip has been well worth it (there are also a ton of deer, and raptors, and I even spotted a bobcat).

1. Up on a Ridge

2. This little one bit off more than he could chew and was having a heckuva time trying to swallow the unfortunate rodent

5. I've seen this one several times, as the notch in its ear gives it away

6. This guy almost bolted right out on the road in front of me, but he saw the car and reversed course, heading back into the brush.

It used to be a pretty rare event, but this season (for me I go out there between August and January) I've seen them on every trip. This afternoon I saw three of them spread between Pierce Point Rd, Drakes Estero, and just prior to the Chimney Rock intersection.
