Hi POTN'ers, good evening everyone , hope all of you is in a good condition and always enjoy your day , Cheer's ..

First of all, i need some opinion, short and simple opinion i mean ,
I need to buy "a Pal" for my Canon 7D 2,
Which one should i buy ? between them ,

Note : I don't even think to "buy" a new friend which is 5Ds or 5DSr, to me it's more like "downgrade" from 5D 3, but don't get me wrong, it's just my humble opinion .. nothing more ..

Thank you ....

=Bkopperl;17717848]A couple of my cats taken with new Opteka gimbal head. I had hoped for some more action, but this was all they would give me.

I have just moved back to the Canon camp after being a Nikon shooter for 6 years. My video team will stick with Nikon for now.

It depends entirely on the collection of lenses you have and what do you shoot? If you are considering a D810, then you are definitely, not a sports shooter. If you are a portrait and and an event photographer, then do you have enough lenses, flashes to run two systems simultaneously? If you are using both cameras simultaneously, will you be fumbling between the settings?

If I had enough money to run both systems, I would prefer D810 for its better dynamic range, better high ISO performance, extra detail you get and extreme crop ability. However, the file size drove me nuts. I have been taking the same quality of pictures with 5Diii now and am happy with the smaller file size. Heck, I even shot two indoor low light sessions with a 7Dii.

The D810 felt a bit heavier and seemed to be made a bit stronger. It seemed to me the grip was similar to 5Diii because it feels same in my hands.

Hope this helps.

Desire to learn; a camera & a few other things.

Just curious, but in what way(s) do you feel the 5DS is a downgrade from the 5DIII? High ISO performance? What type of shooting are you planning to do with this camera, and what features are important to you?

I have not used any of these cameras, so take my comments with a grain of salt, but if you want high resolution then the 5DS would seem to be the natural D810 alternative; the 5DIII seems more comparable to the D750.
In either comparison the Nikon will have more dynamic range at low ISO settings, with diminishing differences at higher ISOs. For landscapes this can be useful, for studio portraits probably not so much.

Since you already have a 7D2 I'm guessing that frame rates and autofocus tracking are not as important, since you would use the 7D2 for this type of shooting?

In your position I would probably stick with Canon, just so you can share lenses between cameras, and use similar controls/menu systems.

I have both a 7DII and a 5DIII, they compliment each other very well.

Thank you, high megapixel isn't the most important to me ,
I just thinking that you have to pay extra almost 1,700 for "an S or SR"
In this case i notice that 5d3 has better iso performance, fps, battery life etc,
I believe we cannot see any big different with our eyes between which camera are use, for any photograph since most photographer always post process their picture, isn't it ?
So what do you think of that ?

I guess I don't think of high price as a "downgrade", just the price of other upgrades.
Yes, the 5D3 has different strengths than the 5DS, and is less expensive. If it meets your needs, then no reason to pay extra for more pixels. The same argument applies regarding the D810.

Unless you make large prints of your pictures, most cameras are more than capable; you could use the same argument to just stay with your 7D2 and not upgrade to a 5D3.

It sounds like for what you want a 5D3 would be a good fit. Similar feel/handling to the 7D2, and you can share lenses between them

What do you shoot?

Surely this will be most important in determining what you buy...

I'm moving up(?) to a 5DIII from a 7D as I'm not shooting much motorsport now so don't need the high frame rate or reach (of a crop).

The 5D3 is the more obvious "pal" for your 7D2. A: they can use the same lenses (except EF-S) and B: they have the same interface. I have a friend who switched from the 5D3 to the D810 for work. The main feature that's better with the D810 is cleaner shadow recovery in post processing. He's said that if he still had a choice, he'd probably still be with Canon for the AF and optics. It's also got adequate resolution for many applications: if you want to do large prints from a single shot, then the D810 has an advantage as well. Everyone has different needs, so it's not clear cut about which one is best: for my own needs, the D810 doesn't have enough features for me to sell all my gear and re-invest in Nikon gear.

I couldn't imagine having to become familiar with both platforms. If you already own Canon then sticking with Canon seems like a no-brainer.

(Emphasis added by me...)

"Need" can be a funny thing.

Assuming you've determined a need for a new camera and you've determined that either the 5D3 or the D810 would satisfy your need, personally I'd go for the Canon. My reasons for that are lens compatibility and similarity of the the 5D3 to the 7D2. I float between many Canons, including the XSi, 60D, and 5D3. I appreciate their similarities, and that I don't have to stop and think about what I'm using each time I want to take a photo.

If however you have a decided preference for one of the two, I'd consider going with that, even if it is the D810. Cameras are tools, nothing more. Some photographers, pros included, use cameras from different manufacturers to satisfy different needs.

Ultimately it is an issue of what you need. Maybe it's a very objective need. "I want to be able to ____ and I cannot with my 7D2." Maybe it's a bit more subjective. "I just want a new camera, and these two seem right for me."

Finally, I really love my 5D3. I use it very often, and have taken nearly 60,000 photos with it. Much of what I do is night time high speed photography, sports and marching band primarily. I like being able to shoot at 1/500s and ISO 12,800 without having to worry if the image will be any good.

I hope this helps! Good luck on making your decision.

The D810 is a better camera, the 5DIII will take better pictures. I would go for Canon in any time, but personally i prefer photos from 6D better that 5DIII. Nikon have better detail and dynamic range, but files from Canon are easier to work with.
