Will be in L.A. several days for a conference. Staying near the conference center.

Any suggestions, tips on where to shoot or where not to shoot?

Is your conference at the convention center in downtown LA? If so you can do this:

From HERE (external link).

There are bad places downtown but in this location there will be many people doing what you are doing. Stay with the pack. Be there a little before sunset.

You can also go HERE (external link) and go for the car light trails. Like this:

Just a few suggestions... Walt Disney Concert Hall... Grand Park... Dorthy Chandler Pavilion/Ahmanson Theatre... And Department of Water and Power... All are within a block and a half from each other... And if you have a car rental or something, the Griffith Observatory (about 8 miles from the Convention Center) is a great place to shoot... Food for though!!!

:D

The fashion district is always a favorite of mine. So many interesting people there, if you care for street photography that is. If you don't you'll probably hate it.

Walt Disney concert hall as mentioned above is definitely a must.

For the cityscape posted above, that's on the 4th street over pass between Figueroa and Beaudry.

If you want to hit up Griffith Observatory on a saturday or sunday you can take the red line to Hollywood and catch a free shuttle transfer up to the observatory: http://www.ladottransit.com …e/observatoryshuttle.html (external link) There is a hiking trail behind the observatory that will get you a nice view.

Los Angeles Union Station has some interesting architecture inside, just don't use a tripod.

Sometimes the John Ferraro building near the Disney Concert Hall will have it's lights on and you get the downtown city backdrop from that building too.

The hollywood and highland metro station is a short subway trip from the main part of downtown and is really cool inside. Technically not supposed to use a tripod but if you're quick with it you can fire off a shot or two before security gets called in. They're usually cool about it too, they'll just tell you to put it away.

Dowtown L.A. has a lot of cool old buildings, just walk around at night with a tripod and you'll find lots of opportunities. If you hit a bad area, you'll know it but for the most part you'll be alright. Lots of people, lots of cops, I wouldn't worry as long as you stay on the main roads.
