Auto Focus in "M" Mode... HELP!

Hey ya'll - I'm a newbie with a newbie question.

Why isn't the camera autofocusing by itself under the following conditions (or does it just not do it):

1) Lens is set to "AF" mode
2) Camera is set to "M" Mode on the left dial, one of the "creative modes"
3) Set to "AI Focus" on the LCD screen

It won't focus itself, and I have to focus manually, is this normal... If fact, NONE of the creative zones will autofocus with the shutter halfway depressed...

Is this a settings issue, or does this camera just not autofocus in these modes?

P.S. The camera will autofocus just fine when set to the basic modes on the left dial; basic mode, portrait mode, landscape mode, etc.

THanks, please HELP!

3rd... It should AF ???

Manual exposure has nothing to do with manual AF.. so it should not be a problem .. Wierd.
Try Single shot or AI servo focus,. "AI focus " is "bunk" :)

Sorry, I have a new 20D... Got it just recently...
Also, "SIngle Shot" and "AI Servo" give the same results...

Not that I know of, I got the camera Used off of FM, but it was/is in pristine condition... Seems to work perfectly, except this... It is supposed to autofocus in "M" mode though, right???

Ohhhh, there for a while I was going to throw up because i thought there was something wrong with my baby... Reset all custom functions and setting (thanks for the heads up DDA!) and now it works great... Again, you guys are AWESOME!

I'm happy that it works. If you read in the manual, you'll find that there is a function allowing you to use the star button for AF and the shutter for exposure. Depending on how you shoot, this might be useful...
