Hello all! Last time I tried to get on here the site was down so I am happy you guys are still here! So anyway:

I photograph cars all day, every day, and have been working on the perfect setup. The photo below is what I have built, and while it is working I feel like it could be much better. I couldn't find any type of actual diffuser material so I ended up buying a roll of ripstop sail cloth and having it stitched together to fit the box. The lights are fluorescent and I would like to change them to LED. It definitely works, but its not great.

Here is a sample photo of a car that I shot on there:

I guess I will leave it at that and answer any questions anyone may have for me.

I'm assuming that you will put the ripstop over the box to smooth out the highlights in the hood & windshield?
Try putting a light medium-high on the wall to the right to put a highlight on the top of the door & rear fender.

Sorry about that, the ripstop is already up but I couldn't find a photo of it. Here is one:

Something else worth mentioning is the volume of cars that I photograph each day, which is between 20-30.

OK. How about a front, side, & front 3/4 view?

Those aren't with the ripstop, are they?

Well then something not very good is going on there. Look at the side window in #2 & the rear window & fender in #3.

edit: I have to go out for a few hours. Back soon.

I like the idea of a light to the side somewhere.
Is that a rotating platform?! It should be if its not! ;)

Can you put the lights on a dimmer switch to control them better?

add a second layer of nylon, they will need to be a couple of feet apart.

more light coming from the sides too. I would skip going with LED.

to be perfectly honest, I would stick some strobes up in the rafters and point them down at the center of the current nylon and ditch all the continuous lights.

Unfortunately strobes are out of the question, I use the carousel for video (see above) so that kills that. Adding another layer of nylon is a good idea, I can also raise the lights at the same time.

How about the idea of shooting from a tripod and using strobes with the overhead off at each position. You could combine shots...

That should help. Try to keep some distance between the layers to diffuse the lights more.
