Well I plucked up courage and ordered the 5DS R this afternoon.

Then I suddenly thought, OMG will my data cards be any good.
I have
2 x Sandisk Extreme 16GB. CF UDMA 60/MB/s
And
4 x Sony U1 Class 10 32GB. SDHC 94 /MB /s

I guess the CF cards might be a tad too small. I am hoping that I will get about 800 JPEGs in the max Large size on the CF cards?
And say 400 large RAWs on to the SD cards?

But will the above cards be fast enough for Studio style single shot shooting or does one need the superfast cards?
I will be shooting in max resolution Raw to the SD card and the largest size of JPEG to the CF card.

Would I notice a difference with these super fast cards, like the Sandisc Extreme Pro 160 MB/s cards

Do

Took a chance on a Grey Import - time will tell if I regret it :-/ but with a saving of £1,100 I thought it worth a risk, paying by Paypal, underpinned by a credit card.

Even at 100 MB per RAW file you would be looking at around 160 shots on your smaller CF cards. I would think that they should be perfectly adequate for most studio sessions. It's not like you wouldn't have a reasonable opportunity to change cards should you need to.

I saved 1400 GBP when I bought my "Grey" 1DX - I had to teach it to speak English but that was the only issue.

I am not certain if Canon have improved the speed of their SD card slots over the 5D3 on the 5DSr, but if they haven't then CF will probably be better. The only Canon cameras that, so far, has been faster with SD cards was the 1D3 - all the others are faster with CF cards, but I am not absolutely certain about the 5DSr.

I wouldn't sweat it as this is not a camera designed for high speed action and long strings of shots - although it will do a surprisingly good job of it! I would suggest using your CF cards as your primary with SD as a backup or to record JPEGs. If you find that you buffer fills up too quickly only then would I look at other cards. The Lexar 1000X and 1066X CF cards are very fast in my camera if that is any help - but, again, try it first as you may well not need them.

Congratulations on your new toy! The extra MP will probably not impress you that much (it's very nice but only part of the picture) but the quality of the files is just stunning! Very non-technical, but there is a LOOK to the files that your camera will produce will make you very happy - the high ISO performance is surprisingly good too - not mega but rather better than one would expect from such a high MP sensor.

Again congrats on your new toy!

Well it was ordered yesterday and UPS say they are delivering tomorrow! From Hong Kong.
My only worry is I agreed to pay £20 extra, for 5 layers of bubble wrap and an extra outer box. Thanks to capital one cc viewing it as as abnormal transaction, by the time I had sorted it the office had closed; so I wasnt able to pay the additional extra for packing I asked for . God by 6.00 am the next morning I had a tracking no.!

So I am worried Paramoz had processed the order before I could pay the extra amount. Not really their fault if it comes without it . Just bad luck, they are so efficient. But the UK office confirmed this morning that the extra packing had been requested. Whether that was at the time the order went through electronicslly , or after they had shipped it - only time will tell.
Being a worry guts ( and without Canon UK backup ) if it comes with just the retail box, I will always wonder if it is spot on, or me or my lens. :-0

It should be fine, after all the standard box is what Canon ship them in - the are well protected.
Let us know how you get on with it. I am currently lusting after one of these but have blown all my funds, for the forseeable, on my 1DX and silly lenses!

Thanks, I would love the 1DX .... But its out of my price range.
Maybe if they put this sensor in a 1DX, added automatic focus in 4K video then I would be tempted to bust the bank. :)
I will let you guys think. And try and find a way to put up some pics ( after putting on my Flack Jacket :) :) )
