Finally got my lights... http://www.amazon.com …oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 (external link)

If you recall, I'm trying to duplicate candle light/golden hour in studio...
in this case one light was aimed from above and slightly behind the three different colored roses.

What say you all, and...what might have been a better direction for the light.

Heya,

If you're using a few lights for everything and there's no other ambient light, you can easily use any lights as long as they are the same temperature, and then in post (RAW), simply adjust the temperature to something closer to golden hour temperature (some where around 7000~8000K?).

As for placement, do it just like it would be. Sun would be at the horizon peaking over from one direction but an omnidirectional illumination at a lower value. For a candle, it's a small light source, so if you take a box or card and cut a shape of a flame of your size and let it shine through that, you can get something close, you just would have to play with it, but making it a smaller source than the giant bulb would help with that effect (granted, you could also just use those fake candles that are LED if you really wanted to do it without real flame?).

Very best,

The above image, IMHO, truly sucked...this is somewhat better.

I like the second one. The lighting is much more subtle and natural-looking. The separation is good too, but wondering what it would look like with a more contrasting or complimentary colour as backdrop.
