So lately, I've been kicking around the idea of going full frame.

I'm happy with what my T2i produces and I've got a few L's and am always looking to acquire better glass.

My thought process is, sell my T2i, my spare XS body, and crop gear for a 5D2 or 6D.

My issue is, a used 5D2 is going for about $750-800. A used 6D is going for $900-1000.

Is the 6D worth the extra few dollars? I do mostly outdoors, well lit shooting with the occasional trip down to the Las Vegas strip or the Fremont street experience.

I recently upgraded from a T4i to a 6D (I did keep the T4i). I rented the 6D for two separate vacations and loved it. Perhaps you should try renting one and see what you think. I do mainly landscape work and love the full frame and ISO range.

I also like the ability to set bracketed sequences anywhere from 3 to 7 shots.

I'm also enjoying the WiFi ability to use my phone as a shutter release and to have the camera stream photos to the phone.

6D, 7D2, T4i, 16-35mm f/4L IS, 100mm Macro f/2.8L IS, 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS, 50mm f/1.4 IS, EF-S 55-250, 1.4 II TC, Kenko Extension Tubes, MeFoto Globetrotter & Roadtrip Tripods, Lightroom CC, Photoshop CC

I went from t1i to 6D. It's worth it if you shoot at night.

I would say it's worth it. A couple hundred bucks really isn't much and with it you gain much better high ISO ability, a smaller and lighter body, better DR, Wi-Fi, GPS, better center focus point, etc.

People will argue that the 5D2 is "more professional", but really the only advantage I can think of with the 5D is the joystick for focus points, which really isn't necessary when you only have 11 points to work with. All its other advantages are minimal and insignificant IMO.

There are a few things that the 6D has that the 5DII doesn't (WiFi, better MFA (2 FL MFA on zooms), better high ISO just off the top of my head). I can't recall the 5DII having something (other than the joystick) that the 6D doesn't.

Magnesium vs polycarbonate body in my opinion is not an issue.

I'd go for the newer 6D.

Good points, another vote for the 6D camera from me too, love mine. Id like to point out the 6D is also a magnesium alloy front and rear frame just like the 5Dii, it just has a polycarbonate top to allow for the WIFI and GPS radios.

Heya,

What do you do with your images? Final form... ie, do you print? If so, do you print large? Or is just for web/social media? I ask because it actually matters in terms of what you're thinking of switching to.

If you're dead set on the 5d2 or 6D, I would go 6D under virtually all circumstances. The only real difference to me is the 1/8000s shutter vs 1/4000s, but if you need that for a reason, you know you don't need that and can get away without with other means. The 6D has better and more modern features on top of the better sensor.

Very best,

I sometimes print, sometimes medium sized, maybe 11x17 or something slightly larger.

I sometimes shoot at night here in Vegas because it's beautiful.

So it looks like I should go with the 6D!

Time to start saving! :)

Thanks for the help!
