Few of my favourites from my first time at the zoo on a cool, cloudy, rainy day. CC appreciated.

I will admit to really not being a big fan of zoo shots, and even though I used to do it a long time ago, I definitely understand the draw to it, I really just prefer the animals outside of the bars. heheh
I will admit also that these are better than average in my opinion, you can tell that you know a thing or two about crop, poses, that kind of thing. Usually in (most) zoo shots you will see something that makes the shot look like it was a zoo and that kills it for me, and even though I can (possibly) see some bokeh from something that 'might be' man-made, it works really well.
Personally, I think that you really did well on all of these!

Hopefully I don't come off as a snob, I don't mean it in that way at all, I just have my preferences and others have theirs, and like I said, I remember the fun I used to have going to zoos taking shots of the assorted critters there, ones that I would never, EVER see if I didn't go to one. :)

I agree. You did an excellent job of making them look like they were not taken at a zoo. Nice composition and very sharp. I like them.

Very nicely done.

Some zoos make the photography much harder. The Niabi Zoo in Illinois is nearly impossible for several of the big cats, closed in behind double chain link fences in tiny enclosures. They are making improvements. Even so, they offer a "Big Cat Behind the Scenes" experience where you can get much closer to some of them...

With the caveat NO PERSONAL PHOTOGRAPHY PERMITTED ruining it.

With the exception of third shot (owl), the backgrounds do not give away the fact that they were taken in a zoo. The ram shot is exceptional.

Thank you. These were all with the 100-400 II on a 1D4.
