I saw this yesterday, and I wanted to be excited, but .... The 15-45 is interesting, but I'm not sure why I'd get the M10 when I could just get a used M1 for less or the M3 for a couple hundred more.

I got tired of waiting on Canon so I got a A7 and I haven't ever been in love with a camera so much.

Still love my original M though, I got turned off when Canon decided to make it bigger. The Mark 1 was so awesome in size i could sneak it in anywhere and never got a double look.

What does this camera have that the Sony A6000 doesn't?

I can list quite a few things that the A6000 has that this one doesn't.

That's what I want to know too. The M10 with the 15-45 kit is on Canon USA's store website, but it's still waiting on a price.

The most important advantage Canon has is the 22/2 lens. If Sony had a tiny 35mm f/2 equivalent with that kind of IQ at that kind of price for the A6000 it would have been a game-changer. Unfortunately Canon didn't try very hard with the M.

B&H is listing it now (USD $600 w 15-45), but--YIKES--look at some of the features. It has a self-portrait mode and can import other photographer's shots to extract the EXIF in order to copy the exposure settings.

I'm anxiously awaiting the third-party selfie wands that thread into the tripod mount.

Seems like Canon is positioning this as a bridge camera...something to hopefully bring consumers into its more serious offerings down the road. Obviously this isn't a camera for anyone here on this forum, so it is what it is. Any serious shooter is going to look past this, but we aren't what Canon is targeting anyway.

I just don't see where a camera like this makes any sense in the modern market for cameras. They've positioned this to appeal to very casual shooters (the type that shoot selfies). That whole market was annihilated by smartphones because they're more convenient, and this is even more of an inconvenience to take around than a P&S. I don't see anyone in that market segment caring that this camera can take higher quality photos. Most people in that segment don't care to develop the skills enough to truly leverage the camera's IQ anyway, so there's no value in carrying this relatively large (compared to a smartphone) device around.

For $600, I think I'd rather pay $100 more for the M3. You can't attach an EVF to the M10.

Rather have a new iPhone. Anyone else get the feeling Canon innovation/market research is severely lacking?

I have trouble believing that a company like Canon has that bad of a read on the market. Either they have something more serious in the pipe-line, or they're hell bent on segmenting their 'serious' DSLR's from their 'casual' mirrorless cameras.

I tend to agree with this. At that introductory price, the viable market looks much too thin. I imagine that the M10 retail price will erode more rapidly than the M3, putting a greater price distance between the two in the short term.

But until they start offering an integrated viewfinder, instead of the clip-on option, I think I have to look to other brands for my casual shooter.

As an M1 owner, I'm excited about the new 15-45 lens. If it's got IQ on par with the 18-55, I'm sold. That'll give me FL equivs of 35, and 24-70 (roughly) with excellent IQall the way, plus all that in a super compact package (that I paid $250 to get on board with) all in all, all of that for under $600! I'm happy, but I also paid almost nothing for the camera and prime.

Not sure about the M10... seems a little pricey for what it is. It's hard to charge that segment of customer $600 when they can buy cheapo PnS for $100 or so, orjust use their smartphone since most of them figure their smartphone isalmost as good asany dslr on the market judging by MP counts

Hrm,

Not interested. I'll grab a M3 when it starts to show up a lot used around for $300ish.

I still have my M1 and I use it all the time, and the 22f2 lives on it.

I'm not interested in the new lenses either even though they're interesting (15-45 sounds fun), but that's because they're EF-M only and I use the adapter and use any lens I want on my M as it is. The only lens that matters to me is the 22f2 though. But I'm weird maybe.

Very best,
