Hi everyone,

I'm about to invest in a filter setup and having planned on buying the Lee Foundation Filter Holder and going form there I've since come across knock off versions and wondering what the general opinion is on the quality of these and if there are any issues with them over the Lee?

For much less than lee holder they seem like a good option especially since its just the holder. Still, part of me questions about skimping on the holder when investing $300+ on filters in front of it.

This is one of the ebay ones I was looking at

The holders you could probably get away with, but not the filters. There's a reason they're so expensive, quality doesn't come cheap. and there's a reason people are happy to pay for them, putting rubbish in front of your lens is totally pointless. I built my collection up over the years, the big stopper being my fav, but once you have them, they're universal and a great thing to own, always better to get things right in camera rather than spend hours in PP.

Cheers, I'm only looking at the knock off holder as I'm not really seeing a difference between it and the Lee and its much easier to get plus cheaper.

As for the filters I plan on using a mix of Singh-Ray and Lee filters.

right ho, well, it looks exactly the same to me, and the chinese knock off stuff I've bought in the past, like a macro rail, has been spot on :-)

I recently bought one of the copies from Amazon...I sent it back because the adapter ring detached from the filter holder with a very small amount of pressure (would detatch if fitting a filter) and also the holder was so tight on the filters you really had to use force to get them in the slots.
I did some research and found even the genuine Lee holders come off the adapter ring a bit too easily.
I ended up buying a Cokin Z Pro holder and use my Lee filters in it. It is an excellent holder and also cheaper than the Lee holder.
Hope this helps..

This...

I have hundreds of pounds worth of Lee filters that i use regularly and the cost of the holder is insignificant IMO. It is well made, the adaptor rings fit nicely and I feel confident it's not going to break.

That looks like the same one as I bought, if so it works just fine. Looks a bit pricey though, mine was about 28 in your money.
