Are the batteries and chargers interchangable on the 5D3 and the 5DS R?

Sorry rushing for a big shoot - no time to read both manuals
Any help much appreciated.
Camera just arrived - and I want to use it :)


Canon EOS 5DS R, Canon EF 70-200 F2.8 L Mk II IS USM, Canon EF 70-300 F4-5.6 L IS USM, EF 40mm F2.8 STM , RC6 Remote. As long as the batteries are LP-E6 or LP-E6N, they both compatible

I don't see any reason Canon will change the batteries for this camera class,
yet, I don't do any web check for 5Ds R specification

Web check says both use the P/N 3348B001 charger and LP-E6 or LP-E6N batteries.

Yep, I noticed the 5DS also uses the same battery grip as the 5D3 as well.


Canon 5D mk IV
EF 135mm 2.0L, EF 70-200mm 2.8L IS II, EF 24-70 2.8L II, EF 50mm 1.4, EF 100mm 2.8L Macro, EF 16-35mm 4L IS, Sigma 150-600mm C, 580EX, 600EX-RT, MeFoto Globetrotter tripod, grips, Black Rapid RS-7, CAMS plate and strap system, Lowepro Flipside 500 AW, and a few other things...

Yes they are interchangeable. I just finished charging my LP-6n batteries in my 5Diii charger.

Folks weren't kidding when they described the 5Ds as a 5D3 with a new sensor:D

Most helpful as the shoot was long only ended now.
Really appreciated so much to,set up and not enought time somvery grateful.

They both seemed to work fine.
