Please excuse the poor picture quality.

Its dark, but the rest of that frame would just be the rest of the boring dentist building.

I think the your first issue is to learn to use your flash and shutter speed necessities.

I agree. What does composition matter until the subject of the composition is at least halfway exposed and in focus.

What gear are you using - it would help us to give you more practical advice on how to improve your shots. The first step is to take pictures and the next is to learn how to make the ideas in your head, happen in the camera. Thus far, you're on the right track.

The images are not great, sorry - but you know that, otherwise you would not have said so.

Perhaps you should start with shooting in less complicated circumstances. Leave the night shots for way, way later. Shoot some interesting stuff in daylight - and learn step by step.

Keep posting and learning from advice. Look at other people's shots - pick ones you really like, and try and shoot the same shot... look out for their settings... and copy them.

Shoot, shoot, shoot - post and learn and you will soon not have to pre-empt your posts with 'sorry for the bad images'.

:D

I rather liked the first shot -- a bit mysterious. IMO, You could have helped it easily by filling in the frame with more of the building and lights... the others are works in prgress. It is tough in those lighting conditions n a candid setting for everyone. Good luck and keep trying. Dennis

I don't know anything about the Canon A75 but I agree with the comments above. Before you get to the ART of composition work on the technical stuff with your gear. Night/indoor shots without decent flash are tough for any camera and I got to believe they are very tough for an A75. Go find some good light, it's the thing images are made of.

I would overexpose that first image and let the lights glare away. Get a nice long exposure on a tripod. Image 2 and 3 obviously need light, and image 3 isn't in focus even a little. There's nothing wrong with starting out shooting in daylight outdoors. That's what I'm doing. I'll let the pros tackle the dark.

all good advice...if you don't have the technical aspects of photography down, it doesn't matter what your composition is. kind of like writing a good novel, but not knowing how to spell...
but i really do like the idea of the first shot.
keep at it.
