i have the 70d but am struggling with the light at some kickboxing venues. medium to very poor lighting. using a sigma 17-50 2.8.bumping iso but as soon as i reach 800 starting to get noisy. someone has said with the nikon the iso can be bumped higher with virtually no sign of noise. i like the canon but, would consider the nikon if right. if not the d600 then which one. price would be up to £1000 second hand?

many thanks

You've got to have something set wrong in the camera. I've taken night shots at 6400 ISO with minimal noise. Do you have the high ISO noise reduction turned on in the camera?
here's an example

10-22mm ƒ/4.0 17.0 mm 1/100 ISO6400

Heya,

Expose properly when shooting high ISO and it's not an issue. Also, it will clean up nicely. The 70D has great ISO performance for it's sensor size.

APS-C, ISO 3200 (EOS-M, a sensor below the 70D):

Full Frame that is 8 years old, an ancient 5D classic, maxed out at it's extended ISO boosted range of ISO 3200:

Your 70D can do much better.

Very best,

Heya,

No worries. It's all about getting used to your camera, exposing with high ISO in mind, the extent that you can push a sensor, and of course, good post-processing (modern, keep up with this, big strides get made often).

Examples (more binned snap-shots, but they illustrate an example in ISO from a small sensor):

APS-C @ ISO 12,800:
