Resistor in Canon Shoe Cord 2?

I got a used one. Did a continuity check on each terminal and the main center one did not check out. So I took it apart and found what looks like a black resistor on that terminal. Measured across it with an ohmmeter and it read something like 470k ohms. What's this resistor for?

It's not a resistor it's a diode. I can only assume it's for isolation if you are powering 2 flashguns off the same hotshoe.
