I'm looking for something to carry in the unlikely event of rain while shooting the Formula 1 race in Texas in late October.
Weight and size are important.
Any suggestions?

The Optech rain sleeves work well in a pinch and are cheap. Here's one example:

I use Optech but have used a plastic shopping bag in a pinch. Better than nothing.

You could also carry one of those inexpensive vinyl emergency ponchos, to keep yourself dry as well as keep rain off the camera gear while not taking a shot.

I don't like those at all. I used them many times this summer and even though it kept the rain out, it was so humid inside them that my cameras were still covered with moisture when I was done. Shower caps can and have been used in a pinch, as well as, a garbage bag cut and taped accordingly.

I carry a 10 gallon Ziploc in my pocket or pack if it looks like rain, the 20 gallon will fit a backpack if you don't have a rain hood for it.

With the 10 gallon I have been known to snip off a corner and shoot in the rain with it covering camera and tripod.

THIS type. (external link)

I just bought the Optech covers, hoping I'll never use them.

Looks like it may be a wet USGP at COTA this year, so prepare... Will Lewis win his third World Championship here? :-)

A cheap but good solution are those vacuum bags made for storage of clothing, the type where you insert the clothing then connect to a vacuum cleaner to suck the air out. I got mine at Bed Bath and Beyond, a Honey-Can-Do Medium 2-pack measuring 23 x 18 for $7. Since they are designed for a vacuum the quality of the plastic is good as is the zipper. There are also some "large" and "extra large" that can handle most any camera with a very long lens.

Dont put your hand inside the bag. I had the same issue at first. but then i just sealed it off and put my hands on the outside of the bag.

Also, get some gaffers tape. I use them but I put the draw string part at the camera end. Then I tape the bag to the lens hood

The Optech cover did the job quite well. It was wet most of the weekend.
BTW Lewis did win the race & championship.

Oh I don't do that at all. It would be unusable if I did. I just suck it up now and let the cameras do what they are designed to do.
