I've got a 5Dc, no idea how many actuations on it. Bought it used for a song. It has an audible 'whine' after the shutter has actuated. Almost like it has a film advance motor...

I sent it in to Canon for the mirror reinforcement and asked them to check out the noise. It came back and the noise was unchanged.

Anybody else have experience with a whiny shutter/mirror?

I'm not sure what you shot before but the 5D has a much different shutter sound than a crop Camera. I wouldn't call it a whine though. More of a thunk or clunk sound compared to the click of a crop.

It definitely has the typical clunk/thunk sounds happening. Those are followed by the whiny motor sound.

I remember my 5Dc shutter as a big, healthy Ka-CHUNK.

I know exactly what you're talking about. Mine has a slight whine after shutter actuation. My friends has a bit more pronounced sound, but it doesn't affect image quality or operations. But it does resemble an autowinder sound. I don't think I would worry about it if it's not affecting your outcomes. Both have the mirror fix done, and my friends has a recently replaced shutter box. My thought is if Canon thought it was an issue, they would have let you know.

Glad to hear I'm not alone Jay. Was wondering if the sound means failure is imminent, but if other users have noticed it then I won't worry.

Still curious what it is... But you're probably right and Canon would have said something if they were concerned.

Yeah. My friend sent his in for the mirror fix and they found he needed a new shutter box. He had no idea how many clicks were on the camera, but it came back and works flawlessly. I have no idea how my clicks are on mine either, and the mirror fix was done, no issues. I'll use it until I can't use it anymore.

Rebels I've used had that distinctive rebel "sneeze" sound it made. I never knew how to describe it until someone here mentioned it's the sound a mouse makes when he sneezes.

The most distinct shutter is an old A series film camera in need of lube. Squeek click.

I would have guessed the sound was coming from the shutterbox, but if your friend's was replaced and still makes the noise.... hmm.

I do this periodically for good maintenance on my 5D3. No whine or any issues, other than all my images come out a bit blurry initially, but after a good cleaning inside too, things look great!

Personally, I lubricate it with the nose grease off the rear LCD, and then I run it through the dishwasher a few times to ensure it's clean inside and out. Works like a charm!

I tried that in the past, and for some reason, my bacon intake tripled, and my cholesterol levels went sky high.
