I'd like your opinions on these two shots

These are a couple of old zoo shots of timberwolves that I took because I liked the lighting. I like the shots, but think perhaps I'm missing something that would improve them.
If you have can think of something that you think would help them, I'd appreciate it. Also, feel free to edit them (I don't shoot RAW when at the zoo because I take so many shots, so I can't provide RAW files). Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

The one on the stump is the better shot in my opinion. However, you're dealing with harsh sunlight and dark shadows. The wolf's sunlit fur is blown out. Perhaps you can recover it somewhat in post processing. I think it could be improved with a tighter crop. That would remove the distracting vine dangling down on the left.

The other shot would not be a keeper for me. Dappled sunlight is probably worse than full harsh sunlight. The animal's left side is far too dark. The eye is completely without detail and appears damaged or deformed because of it. It's also a "look down" shot which generally does not present any subject in a positive way.

What is good is that you managed to get zoo shots that were not defiled by human made artifacts.
