I'll open a page with photos on it and this happens. After a few minutes they all appear fine but not when I first load the page.

I'm doing this on the PC. Windows 7 using Chrome as my browser.

Shampoo sounds like an unfortunate name for a hair product.
You're a ghost driving a meat-coated skeleton made from stardust, riding a rock, hurtling through space. Fear Nothing!

insufferably pedantic. I can live with that.

Those kind of image error message are displayed when the image is checked after posting (takes a few seconds usually) and the image is not found (perhaps behind a password), or has a wrong MIME (image extension does not match to what the server delivers), or is scripted (php or js, or some malicious content), or has some other fault that prevents it to be embedded (too large, animated, transparent gif...). That error message is permanent (until re-checked by mods or post is edited to fix the bad urls). It does not come off/on by page reload.

The other kind of image error: a small framed white box with text "IMAGE FAILED TO LOAD", is an error that tells your browser decided that the image could not be retrieved - it is a separate, case by case message for each member triggered by the browser the member is using. It simply replace a broken image icon of the browser by more meaningful message that links to the image. That error info could happen often with a flakey Wifi or even when you load a page and stop the loading manually.
