Hello! I use a canon sl1 with a sigma 30mm 1.4 and a 40mm pancake and I'm absolutely in love with these two lenses. I use both in different situations without any problem.
Sometimes I need to go wider, maybe more comfortable, for example in a walkaround in the city or in an outdoor children party.
At first I thought in the 24mm pancake because I like so much the 40mm I own but maybe would be a better idea to get the sigma 12-24 because it would give me more perspective.
The question is, if shooting at 24mm the sigma will give me a similar results than the 24 pancake. The idea will be to carry only one lens on those situations. Thanks!
I do apologize for my english, it's not my usual language!

If you want wider and zoom, the two Canon choices are excellent. First is the efs 10-22, second choice is the 10-18 STM. The 10-22 is the better of the two, IMHO. The very little difference in IQ you get from choosing the 10-18 is more than made up for with STM for LV and video, and IS. If I were in the market for a crop frame ultra-wide zoom, I'd get the 10-18. It is less expensive, too.

Thanks for your response!
I think that 10-18 stm could be the best UWA lens option, but I would like to keep the lens mounted on the camera for an every day use and not being changing so many times. My question was if a kind of 10-24 or 10-22 UWA can be used at 22 or 24mm or It lacks the sharpness or the quality of a "normal" zoom at those 22-24.

I own the Sigma 12-24mm (newer version) and am a big fan of it. My copy is very sharp, and I like its color rendering. However, you mentioned the word "comfortable." This lens is pretty big and quite heavy. It is not your typical "walkaround" lens.

For my purposes, I don't mind the extra weight, and I love that it can go down to 12mm on a full frame body. Here's what it looks like at 12mm on a 6d:

the Sigma 12-24 is the full frame version of the Sigma 8-16. I loved the version that I had BUT the apertures are Variable and a lot smaller than your 2 primes. some people love the Sigmas but they do have distortion. How much wider do you actually want to go? There are so many options wider than 30mm What about a 17-40L??

The Newest Tokina is 12-28/4 so it goes from ultra wide to near normal. It costs new less than the Sigma new. The 15-85 goes pretty wide too but gives the medium telephoto option too.

You asked about the Sigma 12-24. I own it, I love it, I use it on my full frame Canon. Below is a link to an album of photos I took in NYC last year. While most were taken with the Sigma, a few were taken with a Canon 50mm f/1.4. If you start looking at individual photos, on the right by the thumbnails you'll see a tab that says "Info". Click that. If you see anything from 12 to 24mm, that was done using the Sigma; 50mm is the Canon. Note that many of the photos were shot at 24mm.

For me, the Sigma at 24mm works great. It does a nice job, and is reasonably fast. At 12mm, I can shoot anything.

I hope this helps!

I have that Sigma 12-24 but the older version [mk1], and i didn't use it much at all, but it was one of the first lenses i bought when i started photography and did a great job that time.

Actually in the past i was using a crop bodies, so 10-22 was my main UWA lens, but then i bought 16-35 and not so long after i bought a full frame camera, then i just use 16-35 and didn't touch 10-22 or 12-24, but i just sold my 16-35 mk1 few days ago and i am looking for a replacement, only Tamron 15-30 and 16-35 f4IS getting my attention, i don't use crop bodies anymore so no more those UWA lenses for crop bodies.

I'm surprised you weren't curious to try 12mm on FF

On an SL1 you are going to get the equivalent of the full frame field of view of a 19 to 38mm zoom if you use a Sigma 12-24mm lens. I have owned both versions and they are excellent lenses, but you lose a lot of field of view with your APS-C camera.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the 15-85mm EFS IS zoom. It is a superb walk-around lens, one I have used on many trips. Combined with a 10-22mm EFS zoom, you have 100 percent of all urban photography covered and 90 percent of field photography.
