I don't usually take animal photo's because I'm not geared for it, but while out shooting landscapes a couple weeks ago managed to capture this bird in flight. Can anyone tell me what kind of bird this is? It was taken near Aspen Co.

Blake yours is definitely a Scrub-jay and not any of the others. Steller's have the black heads with a crest and the Bluebirds have shorter tails relative to their size. The bluebirds are also about 6 in. in size compared to the Scrub-jay's about 9 inches.

So is the OP a Stellars? Does the "mohawk" lay that flat when in flight? His also appears to have a orange/yellow beak. Stellars' look like they have a grey/black beak.

WAIT! I was looking at it wrong. He has something in his mouth. lol. I was seeing the empty space in his open mouth as his beak! Yup, his is a Stellars!
