What is a reliable 3rd party battery for the 7D. The Canon brand is over $100. That's crazy. What can you suggest with your experience with 3rd party batteries?

Wasabi from Amazon.com. $29 for two of them, plus a charger/car charger. I've got four of them. They are better than the Canon ones.

Wow, that's amazing and better than Canon. I'll have to look into it.

I bought 2 Wasabis when I got my 6D two years ago. I use them extensively. The Canon battery is a frequent backup. I estimate the Wasabis get used 3:1 over the Canon. The Wasabis still have 3 green bars. The Canon is down to 2 red bars. I've never counted shots per battery. I recently bought a 70D and the two more Wasabis.

SterlingTek also good. See http://sterlingtek.trynt.com/canon-lp-e6-battery/ (external link) for a $14 battery.

Just want to chime in and say I have used both Wasabi and SterlingTek batteries without issue.

The last time I looked the Canon LP6 battery was about $60 at Amazon.com. Of course that is still four times the cost of the Stirlingtek or Wasabi batteries.

My first Canon LP6 battery, bought with my 60D over four years ago, is now showing one red bar and is not taking a charge.

I bought a few Stirlingtek batteries and a charger over three years ago, but they didn't seem to have the capacity of the Canon batteries (as reported by the camera.) I finally decided that the Canon batteries are probably more reliable and safer, particularly for air travel. Or perhaps I was just terrorized by warnings on the Canon website. In any case, batteries aren't something I buy a lot of, so I am sticking with Canon. But the next time I may try the Wasabi or (again) the Stirlingtek. Perhaps their technology has improved since then.

As mentioned, I prefer Wasabi to Canon for longevity and durability. I did have some SterlingTek batteries for my Rebel a few years ago. I have no complaints about that brand either.

add another one for wasabi, I've always liked their batteries and they last just as long or longer per charge.

Another Washabi fan here. Bought them the same time as my 7D in 2011. The Washabi's still fully charge. the Canon that came with the camera charges to 1 bar. Go figure, but seems to be a common experience here and on Amazon. I use their batts also in my Go Pro and S100. Same great performance.

+1 on the Wasabi, 2 quality batteries & a charger for $29 (Amazon) is a great deal. Never had an issue using them in a 60D or a 6D.
