Studio shot from today

I took some shots as part of an assignment on my college course, and I quite like this one.
I used one softbox on the left and shot with my nifty 50 at f16 (1/200).
I triggered the flash using Pocket Wizards. Have to get me a pair of those!

I think this shot could benefit from the use of another light from camera right to fill in the shadows.

I would try a reflector on right to bring those shadows back up. Failing that, bring the light a bit more central and a 45deg angle.

I agree. If the assignment was for dramatic lighting, that's one thing, but I would have looked for a subject that it would fit better. What grade did you get?

This would have worked if the subject turned her head towards the light. If you had to have her look forward the light should have been 45 degrees so her whole face gets lit.

the light is a bit to far the camera left side. put it about about 45 degrees. you need some light on her left side.

I guess a few questions I have are first, why is the light source positioned to the side of the subject and not at a 45 degree angle? Another is shooting at f16 with a single subject in a pose such as this one? An aperture such as f8 would have been more than sufficient in keeping everything in focus at the distance you were shooting the subject from. A reflector to lighten up the shadows would have helped as well.

As Thorrulz is alluding to, the f/16 aperture throws the background paper into sharp focus when you really want it to be soft and less defined. i can easily see wrinkles in the background that would have been muted at f/8 or f5.6.
