How do you like the performance of this lens? Thinking of getting one myself. What type of photography are you using it for?

My mistake, I did not end up buying the lens from this seller, I got it from another. Not sure if this one is still for sale.

I like the lens. Being picky, I did find a spec or two of dust inside the lens so it's probably not as sealed quite as well as the Canon, however, both the Tamron and Canon extend so there is always that possibility that dust can get inside. Also being picky, the lens does have a tiny bit of play in it, upon reading about the lens, this is not uncommon but also not a problem either. There is no lens creep, even though there is a lens lock. When I had the Canon 17-55 f/2.8 on my 70D, the lens creep was annoying.

As for shooting with it, it's a wonderful lens. I just shot a graduation/farewell party with it and all the images came out crisp and had nice color. Most of those shots were with a speed light. AF speed is good, maybe a touch slower than the Canon but not enough of a difference to pay 2x the price. One complaint is the zoom ring rotates in the opposite direction compared to my Canon lenses.

I agree with the reviews which say it's just as good of a lens, and in some ways better, than the Canon 24-70 f2.8 II for nearly half the price.

Good information. Thank you!

That's the only thing I don't care for is the backwards zoom.

I've recently got into portraits and can-did shots and can't afford the canon version.

I hope when I find a Tamron, I enjoy it as much as you seem to.

This one was selling for a good price, I end up getting mine for a little less but not much. $850 shipped is a good price. I would recommend it over the Canon as the best bang for the buck. It is a great all around lens.

One more question for you? When purchasing a used lens, how can I tell if what I'm buying is a grey market lens? And does it even matter if it's grey market?

I don't think it matters if it is Grey Market. Generally, it just means it was originally intended for sale outside the US, but it is the same exact item. Possibly the box or instructions are in a different language. There was one for sale locally when I was looking that was Grey Market and the box looked the same as what you'd get retail so with Tamron I'm not sure there is any difference. If the warranty is still in tact is hard to say, it may or may not matter.

The seller I purchased from included a copy of the receipt so I could maintain the warranty if I ever needed to send the lens in for anything. Tamron will even clean the lens for free, the only cost is postage.

I'm pretty sure a grey market lens doesn't come with the 6 year warranty that the US lens comes with from what I've gathered. I see on ebay you can get a hell of a deal on a brand new tamron from Japan but it's only got a 6 month warranty.

I hope I can find a us model. -?

Lens is back on the market and still available if anyone is interest? Was on the fence about selling it as it is such a great lens but getting into a new hobby with the family and would rather sell off my gear to help with the cost of getting into it.

tpitsch is correct.

If you're in the the U.S. and want the U.S. warranty it must be purchased from one of Tamron U.S.A.'s authorized dealers. If the lens requires service within the warranty period, Tamron U.S.A. service will require a dated copy of a sales receipt (NOT warranty card) that specifies the model and serial number and shows it was purchased from one of those dealers. Purchasing in the U.S. from someone claiming to be a dealer is not necessarily good enough (looking at you, ebay 'dealers'). Best to call Tamron U.S.A. directly (800-827-8880) if you have any questions. More info/details here:

Interested in this. Still for sale?

And since you have a 7D I'm assuming it's the Canon version. Am I assuming correctly? Thanks
