Hey all,

It's been a few years, and I know it was working at one point, but now I find I'm unable to get a AF assist beam to work on a few cameras.

Playing around with:

Yongnuo YN622c - I read it has an assist beam, never used that, but I have two of these. Can't get them to do the beam though.
Yongnuo 565EX
Yongnuo 565EX II - I have both of these. They have AF assist beams too. Can't seem to get them to work either.
Canon 5D MKI (classic)
Canon 1D MKII
Canon 650D - All of these I've tried a few different ways. Mainly interested in it working on the 5Dc or the 650D really. Menu settings are set to flash on and assist beam on. Flash set to ETTL and cleared any settings on it to ensure it's AF assist beam is set to on. Can't seem to get them to fire assist beams.

Any thoughts on why these beams aren't triggering? Again, menu's on all cameras are set to the flash being on and any custom function regarding assist beams are set to on. Flashes are on, ETTL, and in their own custom functions (f button) the assist beams are set to on.

As for the Yn622, no idea how to enable that thing's AF assist beam.

Thoughts on how to get things working again?

Very best,

Tried to AF in the dark? Sorry if that seems obvious, but your listing doesn't say so... and the beam will only turn on when needed IIRC.

I figured it out.

Turn off AI-Servo and set drive to One Shot.

Wow, I'm a total bone-head. Didn't read it anywhere, but just tried it when I thought "hrm...."

I usually use manual focus, so it didn't even occur to me.

It all works now, lol. Even the old YN622 is emitting a nice grid beam.

So simple... sigh.

Very best,

Unfortunately it didn't show up on my search here on POTN nor on GOOGLE. ;)

Good to know about it now though.
