Wow...didn't realize that initially this camera cost $1800.00. Seems as though the 5d Mark III is holding its value a better....not by much.

Seems as though the 5d Mark III is holding its value a better....not by much. They've sold a huge number of 7D2 units, which allows them to relax the price a bit in some distribution channels. When I bought mine in March, our local dealer (who is usually very happy to deal on prices) was still quoting list + tax, and an authorized online dealer had it for about $400 less - no tax, free shipping. Right now, they're going for about 25% off list ($1350). I only got about a 30% discount when I bought mine! The largest dealer, B&H is currently selling the 7DII for $1499. I'd be a little suspicious of "authorized " dealers selling it for $1350.. Mark

From CPW on 10/28: Adorama has a bundle of the EOS 7D Mark II with 18-135mm STM Kit, PIXMA PRO-100, 32GB Platinum II 200x SDHC, bag, and free photo paper for $1499.95, after a $350 mail-in rebate. The way that Samys gets around the authorized dealer agreement is to not charge tax. It's a 8% or 9% savings depending on where you buy. The 5D mk III dropped from a high of $4300 to $3200 in its first year, or about 25%. The 7D mk II has dropped by almost exactly the same percentage. Looks like a corporate plan to me!

Actually if you look at the body only prices, the 5D III fell from $3499 to $2499, which is only 71% of the original cost. The 7D II was released at $1799 and is generally available at $1499 which is around 83% of the original cost. Of course the 5D III has been on the market far longer. Mark

This puts us back in line with Greg's originally posted ratios (5D3 at 37% vs the 7D2 25%). Using the numbers above and assuming the 5D3 is three years old then average depreciation is 10% per year while the 7D2 is higher at 17% (based on your post not Greg's). >>> Pictures? If you buy directly from an authorized dealer you will pay that price. But, those dealers are allowed to sell though other channels. The main ones I am aware of are Greentoe and Canonpricewatch. Go to one of these two and they will find you a lower price than the minimum required list price and the place it will come from is an authorized dealer unless listed otherwise. Philip

I would think the reason for the price drop would be because of slow sales and of course Nikon releasing the D7200 which is a excellent camera BTW. 6D|7D|7DMKII|Nikon D750|Nikon 85 F1.8|Nikon D5500|G15| Gripped|300F4|35F2IS|85 F1.8|135L F2|200L F2.8|17-55 F2.8|70-200L F2.8 MKII|430EX|

A couple of people on this forum have said the D7200 is a good camera. If the local retailer, who has a 30 day return policy, brings one in I think I will check it out. That would give me enough time to run it through its paces without the hassle of mail order. It could be the replacement for my disappointing 7D2. >>> Pictures? What pictures? <<<<

Its the best crop camera I've ever used by wide margin. Mark
