I am looking for a solution for putting a gel on my gel for Flashpoint RoveLight 600...
In case you have it, how do you use color modifiers with the head? I intend to use the head with Elinchrom softboxes.
Thanks!

Hi, See this thread which is quite similar as I am using a Rovelight/Jinbei HD600:

Generally with 600 ws you don't want the gel too close to the tube. Some Elinchrom boxes have a fairly open internal structure, so for those it should be easy to gaffa a large gel just a few inches in-front of the tube.

is there an internal baffle in your softbox ?
you could try attaching the gel there (either velcro, or punching holes in the corners to put the press studs through - a skirt of gaffer tape might be a good idea to stop ungelled light leaking around the edges (don't stick the gaffa to the softbox, just stick the gaffa down the edge of the gel, then flip it and put another stripe on the other side, so you have a flexible nonsticky bit to butt up against the edge)

I've had a pair of these double clips for years:
Manfrotto 375 Multiclip [mfr # 375]:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com …to_375_375_Multiclip.html (external link)
(clip one double clip to each side of speedring or strobe; or if only one of the double clip, then clip onto the top-side of speedring or strobe).
It's quick and simple. Also, importantly enables air-circulation & a space between gel & strobe's glass or element.

Here is a brief video to give you a visual of the clip concept (obviously in the video it's being used to create a flag, rather than supporting a gel, but you get the idea):

Hope this may help, good luck on figuring out a technique or product that works best for your configurations & applications.

Mary
PS (I haven't tried the clips on Flashpoint strobes, as I use Profoto).

I've tried some of those clips. It just depends on the construction of the modifier I'm gelling and how much bleeding around the edges I feel I can deal with. I actually use blue painters tape a lot to secure gels.

Absolutely WINDPIG. Hence mine was just one view (& as I am cautious around strobes & potential heat).
For me time is often of the essence, (particularly for human subject's with low patience), so my criteria is quick set up & quick tear down - I GET IN & GET OUT.

Heya,

I recently picked up a 1/2 CTO 24" x 20" gel sheet (Lee Filter) on Amazon for like $12 total? I'm going to just velcro it around the stock bowl that comes with the Rovelight and try it out for gelling in warmer late evening light. And just bounce it off a big 60" white inner, black outter umbrella.

Very best,

There are a couple ways I found to gel the flash. One is to buy a small plastic and double tape the gel. Cheetahstand is working on a glass gel available in 1/2 CTO and CTO gel. Alternatively, I'm currently cut up CTS gel and use cooking rubber band to hold the gel. It's not elegant but I've tested and it works/
