Hi guys,

I am a wedding videographer.
does anyone know there is any lens with a 24-70 zoom range that the barrel don't extend when u change the focal length?
I am tired of using prime for steadicam :(

I don't mind if its old manual focus lens or a nikon or any other brand (as soon as it can fit into EF mount and can focus from closest to infinity)

thanks!

edited: use it on a 6D, so no crop lens

Heya,

Nope. Don't think you'll find that. It would be a huge, huge, huge lens.

Very best,

I dont think any exists. Even if the lens were fixed, wouldnt the elements move too much and knock you off balance anyhow?

I think a way to quickly change balance the steadycam would be a better solution, something like a macro rail that has corresponding markers for given focal length.

You can probably find one in a cine version, but it won't be anywhere near cheap. Those lenses cost 10K+ for a reason.

And most just cover APS-C since that's the standard in the film industry.

come to think of it, sony has the 28-135F4 that's parafocal, and I think internal focusing as well.

But,,, even if its internal focusing ,, doesnt the weight balance change within the lens anyway?
so it would throw off balance on stedicam.. ?

But it still extends on zooming ;)

What focal lengths do you use most on steadycam? A range of primes including 24 and 70mm?

I think you are going to have trouble finding a lens that does not change it's balance point while zooming. Any lens that zooms will need to have moving parts that will change the balance slightly. (even focusing can change balance)

The Tokina AF 28-70mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro SV keeps the outside length the same but the front element does move within the front of the barrel.

thanks guys for all the inputs!

I been using my 11-16 and 70-200 on my steadycam, It still well balanced even that I changed the focal length or focusing.

I think the tokina might have a go :P

Really?
I've balanced mine and then realized I had the lens cap on .. while the difference is small it's still noticeable tilt up
That I have to make minor adjustments ..

Maybe the shift in weights isn't that great
