The straps are made of elastic and stretch pretty good. Easily able to move the camera around to portrait position. They are specifically made to hold the optics close to your chest, then provide stretch when optics are being used.

Nice thing is that you don't have a single strap always trying to come off your shoulder, I hate that while hiking, and I want my camera in a position ready to fire.

For $20 bucks at the local Walmart, you can't go wrong.
