I know nothing about compact or consumer cameras, but I now need one to document my lighting setups. I don't need top of the line nor high resolution. But it should zoom in tight for close-up/macro shots, as well as wide (say 120 degrees) and have image stab for handheld work and shoot long videos.

Can someone steer me in the right direction? Thanks.

Honestly just go to your local best buy or Walmart and check to see if you are happy with the zoom range and pick a model. Little compacts are pretty amazing these days. Since this one class of Camera you can handle locally you might as well.

The Canon G7X is a smarter choice for its wider and faster lens and its flip LCD, all for just $100 extra. But I could not resist the look of the G9X. A pure vanity purchase for me.
