Plant hopper rescue

Spotted this poor fellow upside down in a little puddle on my compost bin lid. Managed to get it out using a leaf and much to my surprise it was still alive.
All shots focus stacked using zerene. 5Dmk2/MPE-65/$30Ex flash.

Thanks for the comments Toby and Bob. The compost bins do seem to attract a lot of bugs. Very good for Winter shooting.

WOW! These are wonderful photographs. Are there any other lenses that are a bit on the cheaper side that would allow for this level of zooming with such a sharp shot?

Thanks Tom.
There's a number of ways of getting good magnification that are not too expensive.
Perhaps the easiest is to get the canon 60mm EF-s macro lens and one of the cheaper sets of auto extension tubes. This will get you to over 2:1 magnification.
