Next week I'm going to be shooting heads shots of the staff at my dentist's office for his website updating. Here is their current staff page:
http://drkentmoberly.com/staff.html (external link)

High key for a positive mood.

I thought I'd go in with a 3 light set up with reflector under.

I'll shoot staff from both sides so the web designer can mix it up.

What's say 'bout this lighting, etc.?
Thanks for any input.

Great lighting!

I am loving it with the rim light and just enough reflector to see direction of main light.

Thank you

The skin color look okay? I've run the image through Firefox, Chrome and Explorer.

I appreciate your time.:-)

It looks OK, but depending on what he looks like in life, I might reduce the R layer a little.

Is that a stand-in model? I'd have doubts about going to a dentist who shaves so rarely.

My wife says that's pretty much what my mottled skin looks like. I'm getting old:cry: I may see about backing of the red.
Thanks for the input!

The image looks great from a technical aspect. I think the "high key for a positive mood" is debatable. Before I ever read the post, the first thing that jumped into my head was the feeling of staring up at my dentist with the bright exam lights surrounding him...for me, that evokes a slight sense of anxiety.

Have you/they considered using a soft blueish-gray backdrop? I believe that, psychologically, that general color tone could potentially create a greater positive reaction for their clients.

Just my $0.02 ;-)a

Interesting take. The dentist is up for the high key. It's certainly easy to crank the background light down, or eliminate to get gray.

I like that much, much better. I'd be interested in hearing if others take away the same feel from the high-key shot.

The gray background is too dark and muddy-brownish. Try light blue? The ideal color will also depend on staff members' skin and hair tones and anything they're wearing that isn't white, such as neckties or bright glasses frames.

Very nice.

Neaten the hair, reset the top edge of the eye glasses to about brow height, crop a bit and I think you will have nailed the exemplar for your shoot.

I would tone down the hair light in the initial shot. It looks just a little bit glamourish for a professional headshot.

I did the shoot today. We lucked out because we didn't loose power with the major storm that blew through the Puget Sound region today.

I think it went about as well as I should expect, considering my lack of experience behind the camera with directing.

My only real mess up was at the very end the wife of the dentist wanted a picture with her husband. I grabbed my 40D because it had the 24-105 so I could go wider than the 135 on the 5DIII. Unfortunatly I was using the 40D to set up my lighting and left it in manual mode. I didn't realize it til I got home. I kinda salvaged that by simple downsizing.

All I can say is doing this gives me even more of an appreciation for the photogs that are able to work with the subjects to get the most our of them.

Interestingly enough, the first lady I shot I've known for ever, I thought she would be the easiest...............not. She is the first image above.
The girl with the red hair is a natural in front of the camera, she made it a breeze.
