Are you directly connecting the card reader to a USB port or going through a USB hub? I have seen erratic behavior when going thorough a hub. Often times the behavior can be corrected by use of a power supply with the hub.

If you are asking about updating the driver, then "yes" this is always a good first step with peripherals that aren't behaving properly. There have been some instances reported here where the Lexar 3.0 card reader (with an old driver) has corrupted card certain UDMA compatible cards. Getting the proper driver and formatting the card has fixed the issue.

Most Lexar drivers can be found at http://www.lexar.com/support/downloads (external link).

If I was the OP I would go to the Lexar site and open a chat session to learn about my options. Depending on the response I might then do the Lexar firmware update on a PC running an appropriate o/s, like Windows 7. Then, after making sure my Windows 10 machine has the latest Windows USB driver I would retest the card reader.

Sometimes firmware updates are different than drivers.

tried this, installed a driver fix program called DRIVER TALENT, and it did the trick, wow,it installed the new driver for my lexar CR.amazing! as win.10 wouldn't let me manually install this diver myself,i think some of these driver programs really do work!but use caution when downloading any program!

Sometimes firmware updates are different than drivers.

Firmware is the software that runs on, or perhaps a better choice is in the device. A driver is the software that tells your operating system how to communicate with the device.

Not all peripherals have firmware but if they do they have some level of intelligence.

I have used Driver Talent on some buggy system just to get things going. It can be found at http://www.drivethelife.com …ers-download-utility.html (external link) and is free until the end of the year.

Gotta say that yet another thread where Lexar support's solution is firmware updates to keep running is one reason I won't buy their products. This goes back more than 10 years when they had some "extensions" to the CF standard that supposedly made their cards faster (if the camera maker had licensed the extensions from them; Nikon did, Canon didn't), but left them non-functional in Canon's cameras. Canon released a firmware to accommodate Lexar's flawed extension.
