I received a power2000 battery with the t3i and I only used it a couple times. Nevertheless, it charges (supposedly) and takes a handful of photos and dies. I'm look for an extra lp-e8 and lp-e6 for the t3i and 60d respectively. The canon packs are a lot more expensive than off brands, and I'm wondering if this is a "gets what you pay for" situation. Kind of annoyed that this "power 2000" pack was only used a couple times and doesn't work any longer. That being said, am I better off just.getting the canon packs? Also, I looked up the 60d battery and it is now listed as lp-e6n rather than lp-e6. What is that all about?

Speaking to the 60D battery, I use an original Canon and an LP-E6 by SterlingTek (http://sterlingtek.trynt.com/canon-lp-e6-battery/ (external link)) and really can't tell the difference, both are about 3 years old. $14.

Supposedly the difference between the LP-E6 and LP-E6n is simply a chemistry change to meet newer Japanese Safety Regulations. The LP-E6n came along with the 7DII. The "n" version depending on manufacturer may have slightly higher capacity. The STK I linked to is a 2600 mAH battery far in excess of the 1800 mAh of the Canon LP-E6 or 1865 mAh of the Canon LP-E6n.

I suggest getting directly from the importer, either STK or Wasabi although I suspect someone like Amazon moves stock rapidly enough that you can rely on a purchase being fresh and properly chipped, especially for the T3i or 60D which has been around for a few years.

You will get dozens of opinions as to which is better, STK or Wasabi, bit it all boils down to an individuals personal use. There are few if any issues reported, so go by bottom line.

Thanks John. When you say directly from the importer, you're saying from their webpage? The canon batteries are just really expensive. Ive posed this question because I've had bad experiences with third party batteries in the past.

The link above will get you the battery directly from STK. The Wasabi importer link is http://www.bluenook.com …rger-LP-E6N/dp/B00TA5LJTM (external link). One thing I don't like about Wasabi is they tend to be a "bundle" of two batteries and a charger. So far, regardless of virtually any device I own, I have never had a charger fail and rarely do I need to charge two batteries simultaneously.

Many of us have great luck with the wasabi batteries via amazon.

Im almost positive any 3rd party battery, and most likely many authenric are produced in china. Does the country of origin matter if the quality standard is there.

I've been using Wasabi LP-E6 batteries for several years. I put them in 60D, 70D, 7D, 6D and never had a hint of a problem. You can get two of them and a house & car charger for $29 at Amazon.com.

Sterlingtek are manufactured in China from Japanese battery cells...... or so they claim. All I know is... they stand behind their products and I have a total of 4 pairs of them for my battery gripped 7D2 and 70D.

Others have had equally good success with Wasabi. I started with Sterlingtek and haven't had a reason to change.

So are these two brands properly chipped? I read one review on the sterlingtek site that said the battery is not chipped. I'd like to have it display properly....

I use Wasabi's in my 70D and 6D. Both report current charge and recharge performance on both cameras. This is totally subjective, but I think the Wasabis are better than the Canon versions. Both of my Wasabis are about 4 years old and both still show 3 green bars. I've never had a Canon batter make it to its first birthday like that.
