Trying to decide which route would be better. I shoot a lot of portraits (seniors, families, etc.), mainly outdoors, but some indoors. I am hoping some of you could offer your opinion or experiences with these units. I don't really need to over power the sun often, but it would be nice to have the option.

~$510
360 bare bulb flash with battery pack
Cells II transmitter
S Bracket II

~$630
CL600
Cells II transmitter

I have read that both can do HSS with a 5D Mark III if using the Cells II transmitter. The CL600 obviously has more power and a stronger modeling light, but will weigh more. Right now my main modifiers are shoot through umbrellas, 47" octabox (similar to Apollo orb), and a qbox 24.

Any input on this decision would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Might make the choice easier for you.
You can get the 360 kit for $320 right now at adorama using the flash havoc coupon code.

I like and own the CL-600, as well as some CL-360 lights. Both are great. But the CL-600 is simply not the best performer if you're looking for shooting faster than your camera's sync speed. You'll need to shoot it at no less than 1/2 power for even the Cells II to work properly. With the CL-360, you can use anything from 1/8 to full power, and at pretty much any shutter speed.

Keep in mind that lots of photographers also don't rely upon high shutter speeds. You might want to investigate and experiment with using ND filters instead. They do offer some advantages.

I would also highly recommend the 360 light. I have the Godox version and absolutely love it! The only reason I went with the Godox version is because Cheetahstand was out of stock, and the Godox was available on Amazon.

As far as the transmitter though, I would look at these over the Cells II: http://flashhavoc.com …gers-for-canon-announced/ (external link)

The Cells II work extremely well, better than the YongNuo 622's. But you can't change the power levels remotely with the Cells II, so you have to keep the original transmitter in your pocket to change the power. But, with the new X1 transmitter & Receiver you can do everything, HSS, Groups, and change power levels.

You can't change the power levels of the original AD360 (non TTL model) with the X1 transmitter yet.

Godox first have to release a 2.4GHz version of the FTR-16 receiver (which clips on to the side of the AD360) and is compatible with the X1 transmitter.

Hopefully they should be coming next month.

For the moment, you can mount the FT-16 transmitter on top of the X1 transmitter, to still use HSS with manual and TTL lights.

Thanks for the input guys! I ordered the 360 flash from Adorama, so it should be here soon :).

I have a bunch of 622C triggers. I have read there are some issue if trying to do HSS with those on the 360 flash due to the foot of the flash. Would it work if I plugged a 622C into the flash with a PC cable?

If so, I may just refuse the package with the Cells II in it and use that. That way I could hold off for the x1 and updated receiver.

yes.

the 622 has a screw lock PC and the flash has a 3.5mm mini plug (like a small headphone jack). I would suggest getting a mini plug that has a 90° angle at the plug.

for the price you paid for the flash and Cells II, I'd keep it as a back up.
