Thanks loads Terry, yes it did and none other than pure unadulterated luck ,I have to say . But luck sort of won ,by me being so damn stubborn,
The roe were spotted from the road with the wind from behind us,we drove around them, and then maybe walked a half mile back, wind now in our faces.

The last part of the stalk to the Roe would have been maybe a couple of hundred yards on said tummy. The light had just crashed and in my heart I really felt this was never going to happen. There was simply no way I was going to get to those Roe,I felt almost a fool to try. One of the Roe, a doe had me spotted way to early in the stalk. So I was frozen watching her and waiting. I took a couple of snaps as I felt that was all I would get. In the bottom left corner of the frame a blurry shape appeared as I pressed the shutter. Which lead to probably my best encounter photographically with this fat little alien . I can only dream of what might have been if the light had stayed the same as it was 1/2 hour earlier.

I'm time pressed, I have only been getting out again these last few weeks,I'm rusty making cras "I don't believe I did that" stalking mistakes and camera skills are as always making me scream a bit at myself. But wow haven't we had some deer fun of late utterly fabulous encounters. We've never quite had a run like this before. It's the nature of wildlife that one is always prepared to go home with a wet ass and no piccies;-)a We all have blind hope: sure we can learn and watch our subjects, put the odds in our favour, that we will actually see something to make an image of. But never if we are shooting WILD is the any guarantee of a "show" so we all go out with blind hope hmmmm, sometimes I feel my level of hope is madness .

I should have written those roe off,my chances of getting to them were so slim so so slim !! Truth be told I was right in that assesment ...............I didn't get to them !!

She was enough frankly Terry, I just rolled over smiling like a kid. I forgot about the roe we had been tracking . Maybe this will happen again, I dunno with roe yes,but muntjac ????? I'll be a lucky lucky guy if it does. You know your deer Terry ,these are sharp little cookies. 10 mins no cover is a long time to be gifted.

sorry for wafflin:-),I really wanted to tell this tale last night but too shattered. Such a rare chance I can't believe how lucky I was to have her bumble out in front of me and stay a while

love the light on those ears above ^^^^^^

A bit of a roe buck, in some oil seed rape in flower...RnR

We have some still in velvet some completely through as I write. i'm also seeing some very heavy ladies: fawns will be soon. I followed a couple of bucks possibly in the throws of rut,one certainly one very dominant and chasing/hounding the other. There was no sparing,I know little of how roe rut just that for some reason they are different to many northern hemisphere deer,in the way they exploit the seasons.

here's one of my last images from a stalk with a mature roe buck you might see more of him a bit of a tease he's a fine chap. Our roe don't have the conventional rack of your American deer,or for that matter our red and fallow . They are an odd little deer in many ways I do love them

here is what I believe to be a yearling doe summer coat on her head, the other end a winter fluff ball 1/320 f 5.6 iso 12800 this little lass and her mum were hilarious a wonderful encounter

These deer are small photographing fawns bar ear tips is thus far beyond me :-) The size may be part of the reason they breed like they do, as their is so so much cover exploding out of the ground at the moment they will be easy to hide and have longer to grow before winter, who knows i've seen mum and kidlets many times watche a knock need baby probably take it's first suck, but make a piccy . Ha no chance...maybe this year

Thank you.... it was quested for ...............there can be something magical when one shoots across the top of vegatation,I suppose it's similar to shooting really low to the ground, with a shallow DOF. I really enjoy experimenting with this type( or maybe style is a better word) of image. I really wanted a bit more of him,but after seeing what came back,i'm fairly pleased with the image as shown. It isn't cropped as with the other image. I'm pretty sure I focused manually as I was struggling to AF with all the flower around him.

Cheers for the kind words ,I felt it might be one of those images that folks either like a lot or simply don't:lol:

take care

Thanks Terry, the iste atop the Cotswold escarpment in the middle of the UK the pink flowers are part of a seed mix for wildlife and birds. this is planted around the edge of an oilseed rape field. It gives a wider set of niches for the wildlife big and small to utilise This farm is very cleverly looked after, it's a proper working farm but the wildlife there is amazing in it's abundance. I'm very lucky to be able to make images there !!

This field above is an amazing spot to take images at the moment very very pretty The fab back drop from some angles across a reasonably shallow valley is what you are seeing with the doe image.

Here's one from closer to home:
