yes, it's a composite, but all aspects of the image were taken at the same time from the same viewpoint

Yala National Park, Sri Lanka
25th December 2020 at 11:30am

The Coronavirus pandemic means that instead of hundreds of 4x4s noisily clattering about the 1,000 square kilometres of Yala National Park, there were almost none and we spent most of our two days at the park on our own. One of the benefits was many of the animals being more relaxed about human company than normal. Admittedly with my 100-400 and 1.4x extender fitted, but this foraging Axis Spotted Stag is a case in point!

I admit it, I didn't even have to stalk these beauties just outside of Yellowstone

What I wouldn't give to see this in the woods, let alone capture as well as you did. Great shot SYS!!

I didn't bring my 300mm f/4L IS USM. I shot this with my 100mm f/2.8 Macro instead. I couldn't fill the frame, but he's still a nice buck.

You definitely didn't need to fill the frame. This shot is perfect as it is. It shows the size of the buck and the vastness of the land. I really like this.

Thank you very much. Interestingly, I went back to the same site today since the photo was taken, but no luck this time.
