So I have recently been asked by my work (totally non photography related job) to photograph some products. I have never really done product photography but have wanted to get into it more recently.

I saw this basic setup and I DIY rigged up a few things and got some good results this afternoon.

Instead of a flash like the photo is using, I used some continuous bulbs, but would LOVE to work with strobes. I believe the flash in the photo is used as a strobe, not continuous...am I right there?

Can anyone recommend a good flash to use? The one in the photo is a LumoPro LP160 but those are unavailable currently. What is something comparable? I also am looking for rather inexpensive stands for the light/umbrella. Any recommendations there too?

Yes, same results.
I like flash for people, but continuous light for product.

I had never done product photography before and was asked to shoot a few glass house awards. It was rather hard shooting glass.
