Woody wagon! How dare you call a Moggy Traveller a woody wagon! If you were here I would knock yer beer over

That my man is a famous Morris Minor Traveller and a wonderful machine. With 1000cc of raw power. No springs to worry on the front, torque bars on the front and leaf springs on the rear. I had an early saloon with the 998cc side valve engine as my first car. Slightly under powered and if you saw a hill in the distance you had to change down through the gears, but the 1000cc OH valve was a goodie!

I had no idea that they made them with the steering wheel on the wrong side? Must have been a mastike or a Friday job? Shame about the paint job too. :-(

My ambition for a good while is to grow old disgracefully. So far my wife tells me that I am doing really well!

My apologies! I suppose whoever restored it made some mistakes with the paint and steering? ;-)a
That car found its way to Monterey, California. Did the original have the wood panels?

Woody wagon of some sort

Its a Morris Minor variant, Traveler I think. A geography teachers favorite from the early 60s.

Back in the days when engine displacements were about 1000cc and 0 to 60 was in the order of 20-30 seconds and top speeds 60-80 MPH.

The traveller had the wood bars which are the only ones I have seen with my own eyes, but there are pictures of ones with some fill in wood so it may be original. You might be able to find out more on the morry site http://potteries.mmoc.org.uk/Identify.htm (external link), these are a bit of an enthusiasts car even these days.

I think my grandad had one or the standard morris saloon, if my memory is correct it had indicator lights that swung out of the door pillar in addition to lighting up, crazy over complicated arrangement.

It reminds me of when a Bugatti racing driver complained to Bugatti himself that although the car went like the wind it didn't break well at all due to the bad braking system.

The only reply given was that his Bugattiis were meant to go fast and not meant to slow down!

I think most Audi/BMW drivers have taken over that role now, I also understand indicators are optional extras on these makes. :-)

Here's a fine example of timber and metal Morrie
http://www.californiaclassix.com/archive/58_Traveler_c620.html (external link)

I've only seen one or two here.
Appears the timber was an option.

Those flip out indicators were awesome.
They were in the days before they outlawed hand or arm signals.
Beat putting your arm out the window to indicate and risk colliding with something :-(

Good stuff, as always, Mike.

Really love the Jaguars of that era.

The man standing in front of the car in the last shot is my friend's father,
who left this world just a few days before his 100th year.
He was a veteran of the US Navy.
He was a highly-respected man, and missed by those of us
who had the honorous privilege of knowing him.
I honor and respect him by displaying him
beside a love of his, which was to photograph beautiful things.

How fitting, and yes honourable

That's rather touching.

That Auburn really is a gorgeous old vehicle. I wonder what was going through his mind as he gazed over it.
Secrets on all sides.
