an interesting piece of trivia if youre so inclined to read on...

the reason Mercedes raced cars that were plain silver for so long is that in a race way way back when they first started building cars, they had painted their 2 or 3 cars brilliant white. when they were inspected and weight, it was found they were over the maximum allowable weight so to make the specs, Mercedes had their mechanics, sand all of the paint off to shed the required pounds.

the cars passed tech and won (i dont recall what their places were) so Mercedes decided to continue with bare metal or to use a light coat of silver on their race cars from then on out. i imagine that had something to do with their corporate image, which is natural metal or silver finish cars
