I looked through the manual and I can't find ANYTHING to answer my question.

I was at the beach yesterday, and I live about a 10 minute walk from the beach. I didn't realize my CF card was still on top of my computer, not in the camera, till I got there. I didn't feel like walking back to get it  Anyway, I took pictures without the CF card in the camera and now I can't figure out how to get the photos from camera to computer or from camera to CF card. Anyone have any suggestions?
TIA! ;)

Heh, those pictures are still at the beach, you’ll have to go back tomorrow to pick them up.. :D
Just make sure this time you either put your camera’s setting Shoot w/o card to Off, or insert the card.

It might help to tell us what model camera you have.
I believe some models have an internal memory that can store a limited number of images with a memory card.

It's a Rebel XT, by the way.

Damnit. Those were some great shots, but I guess there will be another day like yesterday :)

Hopefully NOT! If there is another day like yesterday, you may forget to use a lens.

There's a setting in the camera that lets it do what you did. As far as I can figure, the only purpose of that setting is to show folks in the store how the camera works. You should turn the function off. Check your manual for details - I have a different model.

In Rebel XT Menu it’s at the bottom of Set-up 1 Menu (4th from the left).

Hi kellybean, sorrie to hear. As far as I know, the images that you have taken is not actually saved as 350d XT does not have any internal memory for storing images. Just try to remember to load back your CF.

You can't just USB connect and transfer? that should be possible, i have one with internal memory and that's what i do. If you don't have the card in when connected, the internal memory should show up, then you can just transfer the images normally.

Don't turn off the option though, you still want to be able to shoot if you forget the card again.

There is no memory in the camera to store the image. The "feature" allowing you to operate the camera without a CF card inserted is purely and simply for DEMONSTRATING the camera. It may be possible - if you don't turn the camera off - to have an image or two in the camera's buffers. I don't know if you could extract the image(s) from the camera, though.

It is absolutley silly to leave the function active, because the user can easily make the mistake of doing what the original poster did - shooting a whole string of useless shots. With the "feature" turned off, you get an instant warning that you forgot to put a memory card into the camera.

You can also use the shoot with no CF function for tethered shooting to a PC, so its not only for demonstrating the camera. Perhaps Im one of the few who finds this useful on occasion
