I just upgraded from a Rebel T3 to a 7D II. I would like to get a lens which would give me more reach. I have an EF-S 55-250 and an EF 75-300 (which I bought for how cheap it was in price). I'm thinking about either the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM or the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM. To give an example of when I would've liked to have had something longer, I went to NY Giants football training camp over the summer and the 55-250 just didn't get me as close as I would've liked. I'm leaning a bit more towards the 100-400 because of the longer reach.

Sigma 150-600 C
cheaper then the 100-400 and gives longer reach and performs just as well everywhere else. I had one for years and loved it but I like my 150-600 more

My gear

R7, 7D, Canon RF 14-35 f4L, Canon RF 50 1.8 STM, Tamron 70-200 G2, Canon 100-400LII, Canon EF-RF

Heya,

Save a bit more, shop, and find a Sigma 120-300 F2.8 OS non-Sport for around $2k. Yes, it's double your unproclaimed budget, but it's an end game lens that will give you all the reach you need, with supertele speed, and takes TC's very well, so you have 200 F2.8, 300 F2.8, 420 F4, 600 F5.6 with just two TC's. Truly an end-game lens for sports, or anything action oriented that requires reach.

Very best,
