i think you've done a good job. Pretty good cross-lighting. What do you think of it? What's the intention - or story - behind the shot? If it's the guy's awesome body, then I think a little less light on the lower half, and maybe mist his skin with a fine spray of water. The composition is dead center, so I think his pose might be better if it was symmetrical. Maybe? Cropped at the waist and along his arm (camera right) would help, I think.
Thank you. I'm very happy with it, to be honest. I was just excited to be able to play with my lights again (it had been almost a year). I was also thrilled that PW had finally updated their firmware. Way less finicky! It was a real treat being able to shoot at f/2 (and even wider) thanks to Hypersync and some well thought out gear choices. I had been wanting to test this (hypersync) for ages but was too busy with work and having my first child. The mist may have been a good idea although he was already oiled up, and when you view it at 100%, it's really quite incredible the detail of his skin, the oil, and the little bit of sweat beading up. It makes me wonder if water would have added something or just caused a distraction. I'd love to try it next time though. I'm okay with the composition, I just wish I had given myself a little more negative space where the dumbell is touching the frame. All in all though, I'm just happy I got about a handful of keepers. He wanted to go through a lot of different poses and my key light was a pain to set up, so once I got it set up, I left it alone and didn't touch it. I was able to change all the power settings via the AC3 on camera, but as for positioning of the lights, the kickers were the only ones which I moved around as he posed in different positions. Ideally, I'd like to have my key light on a manfrotto super boom with casters. The space was great - high ceilings, tons of room and power outlets; I just need my key light to be more flexible in the future. A c-stand boomed high with a ton of sandbags is pretty static once it's set up. But like I said, given the fact that my key light was pretty much stuck in one position and he was moving around as much as he did, I'm happy we got a variety of fairly well lit images. In the future, a better light stand/boom and an assistant would really help though.
Eh...?
